Description :
The middle Senegal Valley has a low rainfall sahelian climate which has made dryland agriculture exceptionaly problematic during the past 25 years. Irrigation has been a welcomed addition to the productive spectrum of the valley. The Mamnantali Dam is maaged without taking into account downstream smallholder productivity. The effects of flood-deficit years can be seen in increased frood shortages among the majority of farmers who do not have access to irrigation.
