The purpose of this paper is to examine the model developed by Hirano and Aniya (1988, 1989, 1990) for the development of the glacial valley cross-profile, and to offer an alternative model using rock mass strength (RMS) and morphometric data acquired from glacierized troughs in the Southern Alps, New Zealand.
