Geoenvironmental changes along Gamasa-Baltim coast, north of the Nile Delta, Egypt

Auteur :
EL-ASMAR, H.M.

Description :
The geomorphology of the coastal area between Gamasa and Baltim reveals 4 units : beach, strand plain, coastal sand dunes and interdune depressions. The landuse-landcover classification of the study area reveals 6 classes. The change detection using satellites images of TM-1990 and SPOT-1995 reveals the increase in irrigation canals, reclamation cultivation and construction of fish ponds. Some future environmental hazards may threaten the development of the coastal area : coastal erosion, shoreline retreat, sand movement. Such hazards may impede the reclamation activities and the expansion of tourism projects.
