Description :
This paper investigates the possibility of linking finite element modelled two-dimensional hydraulics with floodplain sedimentation rates derived from radionuclide dating techniques. The TELEMAC-2D system is used to simulate the full dynamic velocity vector and water depth distributions for a 1 in 12 year flood event for the River Culm, Devon. These are compared to patterns of medium-term (30-100 years) sedimentation rates and a degree of correlation is found to exist. This information is used to comment on the complexity of flow and sediment deposition interactions in floodplain environments.
