First data on the coastal dynamics and the sedimentary characteristics of the area influenced by the River Irminio basin (SE Sicily)

Description :
This paper examines the drainage basin of the Irminio River, in the southern sector of Sicily, and concerns the evolution of its delta, which became submerged in the recent geological past and in the present historical period. The evolution of the subaqueous delta was deduced from the geological and historical-archaeological data and also from comparison of the 1992, 1985 and 1967 bathymetric surveys.
