This paper presents some applications of historical data and analysis to the study of fluvial forms and processes. Several specific approaches or techniques are presented with examples. The symbiosis of several approaches is useful for human-induced fluvial changes as well as for those occuring naturally. This paper is intended as an introduction to several of the primary techniques.
