Social capital is recognised as a determinant of local economic development and a central task for development planners is social capital formation. An agenda is necessary for professional practice and academia in building social capital for community development. Free and invisible, social capital is being built humbly in small increments by individuals stepping out of isolation, enjoying connectedness and taking responsibility for their public lives.
