Description :
Attention is given to the role of rural roads in countering remoteness and promoting more equitable development. The paper focuses on three economic impacts of roads - agricultural production, employment, and household income. The impact of roads varies within an area and between areas. Impacts are considerably greater when roads provide communities with access to a major urban centre compared with a small town.
