Reducing inequality by means of neighbourhood rehabilitation: an Israeli experiment and its lessons

Auteurs :
CARMON, N.
BARON, M.

Description :
This study analyses the influence of Project Renewal on the status of its target neighbourhoods, by means of a before-and-after comparison of these areas with matched control neighbourhoods. There is an improving service provision in poor areas, but not sufficient to change their status. The status and its attractiveness are determined more by its reputation than by the services it offers. The final discussion is in a general context of welfare policy.
