Degradation of soil structure by welding. A micromorphological study

Auteurs :

Description :
In 1985 a plot study was started on sloping cultivated loess soils in South-Limbourg (The Netherlands) to evaluate the effects of various cropping systems of fodder maize on runoff, soil loss and crop yield under natural rainfall. In 1988, in addition a soil micromorphological investigation was undertaken of the soil layer at and immediately below the soil surface on the experimental plots. In this paper the results of the micromorphological analysis of the processes of soil structure degradation and crust formation are presented including the applicability of the McIntyre model of soil crust formation.
