Pedogenesis by clay dissolution on acid, low-grade metamorphic rocks under mediterranean forests in southern Tuscany (Italy)

Description :
To that purpose 3 representative soil profiles on phyllite and sandstone under sclerophyllous oak, pine and heathland were selected. Without attempting a budget study for the entire forested area, the hypothesis that decomposing organic matter is the dominant proton source for the hydrolysis of clay minerals will be discussed. The results will be evaluated with reference to the current theory on pedogenesis.
