Racial context and voting behavior in one-party urban political systems

Special issue: spatial and contextual models of political behaviour

Description :
The goal of this paper is to explore the structure of racially driven politics in the city of St Louis as a setting for the extending the Boudon contextual model to voting in urban contexts and to assess the significance of spatial adjacency when applied to urban voting. The results of analysis support the idea that race, and perhaps class as well, are fundamental to the structure of voting in city elections and also highlight some methodological problems.
