Diversification problems in a rentier state: the case of Brunei

Auteurs :
CLEARY, M.

Description :
Despite its wealth, Brunei faces potentially serious problems in the formulation and implementation of its economic diversification strategy. Currency appreciations (resulting from the rise of revenues from royalties and taxes) have a negative impact on domestic manufacturing and the nontradable sector. Development programmes have been introduced, but two sets of constraints can be identified, labour and market.
