This article gives examples of temporal massmovement research carried out in selected parts of the French Alps. Time scales involved concern hourly and seasonal monitoring of landslide activity and longterm observation on a century scale. The aim is to show examples of different methodologies which can be used and to show results which can be expected from different types of studies.
