Forced removal and the struggle for land and labour in South Africa: the Ngomane of Tenbosh, 1926-1954

Auteur :
MATHER, C.

Description :
The paper is about the forced removal of an African community in the Transvaal lowveld. The struggle for communities to retain access to land and contol over their labour is regionally variable. The role of the state is more complex and the forced relocation of Africans cannot be reduced to a struggle between peasants and a monolithic apartheid state. A redefinition and re-conquest of space are involved.
