Description :
The two large container ports of Hamburg and Bremen are faced with economic and technical-organisational changes in intercontinental container transport. Their restructuring is governed by an adjustment of infrastructures to changes in transport and services. The introduction of containers resulted in spiralling labour productivity, with a loss in jobs. The services offered towards value-added logistics are developed. The functional changes modify economic linkages of ports and regions.
