Settlement frontiers revisited : the case of Israel and the West Bank

The Israeli pre-state frontier is analyzed in terms of five major frontier elements : land (price, location, use); sociospatial dynamics (pre-settlement, expansion, movement); institutions (settlers, nation); social relations and the polity. The West Bank settlement enterprise is assessed, to represent a changing form of expansion coupled with varying contributions to social change.
