Special Issue
Description :
The complex relationship between capital and nature in the American West is the focus of this issue. The purpose is to show that nature has been pivotal to the dynamics of capital accumulation in the West, at both material and ideological levels. The pivotal role of nature is evident in the massive federal presence in western land and resource politics. Nature is essential to capitalist accumulation, but nature can be posed in opposition to culture and economy, and such ideologies can become significant obstacles to capitalist accumulation.
