Class struggle in the tundra: the fate of Russia's workers' movement
Auteurs :BURAWOY, M.

Description :
Since 1989, key sectors of the industrial working class (coal minors) challenged the old order in the name of progress. Long before, there had been a history of strikes at Vorkuta (Komi Republic, Russia), a true communist city. The strike committee demanded in 1989 the restoration of the Northern and regional coefficients (monetary compensation). True to its historic resilience, Vorkuta has managed to shore up socialist organizations with capitalist content.
