Through observation and experiments conducted with two Senegalese village Social Accounting Matrices, the socioeconomic and environmental impact of migration and diversification out of agriculture is examined. Economically, it is found that migration can result in substantial increases in village income. Stress on the environment might be reduced through curtailing peanut production.
