Settlement history and tourism development in two Arizona mountain communities

Description :
The tourism development of two nearby Arizona mountain communities, Heber-Overgaard and Pinetop-Lakeside, was found to be a result of five factors : historical settlement, transportation routes, physical attractions, undeveloped land and recent tourism promotion. Both communities started in the late 1800s as Mormon lumber towns, but today the more diversified Pinetop-Lakeside seeks rapid tourist development while Heber-Overgaard pursues appropriate development that will not overwhelm its traditional culture. - (SLD)
