Distribution and chemical composition of microcolonial fungi and rock coatings from arid Australia

In this study, microcolonial fungi were examined on rock coatings found at a range of sites in arid Australia. Comparisons were made between the elemental composition of various rock coatings and the microcolonial fungi found on them, and the possible role of microcolonial fungi in relation to coating development or destruction was examined.
