River flow events and vegetation colonization of point bars in Iowa

Auteurs :
CRAIG, M.R.
MALANSON, G.P.

Description :
This study focuses on the distribution of seedlings and clones of four species relative to elevation and sediment characteristics on point-bar sites. The AA. hypothesize that different modes of reproduction and different species will be spatially segregated along gradients of elevation and soil composition. They study establishment at a specific time and place in order to capture the relation between a particular flood stage and a vegetation pattern. They reason that if site-specific features cannot account for the patterns found that dispersal must be a determining factor.
