An enhanced synoptic climatology of ozone using a sequencing technique

This paper examines links between climate and ozone pollution using a synoptic classification scheme, which enables the holistic treatment of complicated relationships between precursors and meteorological factors. The classification is applied to daily maximum ozone concentration in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the period 1978-1987. Basic climatological relationships are analyzed, and a new sequencing technique is presented that increases information content and distinguishes additional spatial and temporal characteristics.
