Soil splash as an important agent of erosion

Geomorphological survey and mapping

Description :
The A. has tried to find soil types that are well represented in the eastern part of Austria. Two test plots are in the area of Östliches Waldviertel. The better a soil is sorted and the more silty a soil is, the more sediment discharge by overland flow takes place. Since many rains in Central Europe do not generate overland flow (too little intensity, too short duration) but splash sets in already at the first drops impact we must regard it as an important denudational process.
