This research outlines the evolution of the Hargita and Görgényi Mountains, the southern part of the Eastern Carpathian Volcanic Chain. On the basis of arguments in the paper, the one-stage origin of the volcanic activity is advanced. The style and degree of degradation of the landforms after the volcanic activity is also discussed. - (JS)
