In 1897 the air balloon of Salamon August Andrée and his colleagues took off from the Spitsbergen (Norway) to reach the North Pole. The trial received the name of Andrée Expedition in the history of exploration. Paper analyses the Hungarian geographical literature dealing with the ill fated adventure.- (ZK)
