Ideology of mapping in apartheid South Africa
Auteur :KELSO, C.
Description :
Maps are authoritative images which have traditionally been viewed either as objective, rational representations of reality or as subjective tools of propaganda. Recently a body of literature has suggested a series of layers of ideology which need to be deconstructed. Using maps of Phuthatitjhaba in Qwaqwa it is demonstrated how maps drawn during and after apartheid reflect particular political ideologies. - (AJC)
