Post-apartheid social polarisations : the creation of sub-urban identities in Cape Town

Auteurs :

Description :
The links between post-apartheid state policy and the experiences of residents of a former coloured area and in African informal settlement in Cape Town are presented. It is concluded that the impact of state policy is uneven, economic position has become the most significant determinant of status and that policies of integration appear to be failing. As a result post-apartheid economic and social polarisations are generating new sub-urban identities. - (AJC)
