Description :
The study area lies in the subhumid Gulf Coastal Plain physiographic province of east central Texas. Specifically, geological investigations were undertaken along the 75-km segment of the floodplain between Hearne and Navasota, where the late Quaternary history is complex. 2 major and 3 minor periods of soil formation are documented in the floodplain sequence. These changes on the floodplain appear to be the result not of a single factor, but of the complex interplay among changes in climate, sediment yield, and intrinsic floodplain variables over time.
