The AA. describe the depositional environments in the mouths and lower reaches of river valleys, with particular emphasis on the vertical and horizontal changes in the abundance of gravels. They interpret these changes as products of changes in sea-level and in climate and stream flow conditions. The interpretations are derived from the study of the river mouths of three catchments, the Var, the Brague, and the Paillon.
