Rainfall reconstruction using wood charcoal from two archaeological sites in South Africa
Auteur :FEBRUARY, E.C.
Description :
This paper discusses an original technique for climate research that could provide a reliable proxy rainfall record going beyond the reach of the historic record. The basic hypothesis is that measurements of xylem vessel size and frequency in archaeological charcoal samples can be used to reconstruct climatic conditions at the time the wood was burned.
