Description :
The purpose of this study was to document the chronological sequence of soils present on an extensive series of terrace deposits found along the James River in the Fall Zone of central Virginia. Some of the oldest soils and landforms in the Virginia Coastal Plain are present here, along with fluvial terraces that correlate with coastal terraces farther east. The AA. clarify soil-geomorphic relations and provide a basis for allostratigraphic subdivision of the inner Coastal Plain.
