The aim of this paper is to give a comprehensive description of the depositional environment and sediment types in the backbarrier of the Skallingen peninsula and to point out the advantages which can be obtained from an analysis and comparison of the dominant parts of grain-size distributions, based on the decomposition of such distributions into overlapping log-normal sub-populations.
