A partir des données publiées portant sur l'histoire du niveau du lac, couplées à d'autres paramètres (topographie régionale post-iroquoise, taux d'érosion-sédimentation et distribution des matériaux résistants des rives), les AA. tracent l'évolution de la ligne de rivage pour le côté ouest du lac Ontario. Cette reconstitution ouvre une fenêtre sur l'évolution passée et future de cette ligne de rivage, et pourrait être utile pour localiser des dépôts d'agrégats extracôtiers potentiellement exploitables.
