The study gives a brief overview about the quantitative and qualitative aspects of the green spaces in Budapest. In the first part of the paper landsat computer analysis is used to classify the extent and quality of green spaces in different time period of this century. After that the municipal policy concerning the maintenance and protection of public parks, green surfaces forests and conservation areas within the metropolitan area is described. - (JS)
