Description :
This paper describes the coastal feature, explains the historical legacy of use, and examines problems of contemporary coastal management. The Dorset coast in southwest England is used to illustrate these main points. The paper concludes with a consideration of the natural geomorphological principles of landscape design which might be employed as part of the guiding concepts.
