This paper has three main aims : first, to provide a comprehensive description of the morphological, hydraulic and sedimentological characteristics of anabranching rivers in the Alice Springs region; second, to illustrate factors contributing to the formation and maintenance of anabranching river patterns; and third, to consider the implications of anabranching for flow and sediment discharge.
