Stability of streambanks formed in partially saturated soils and effects of negative pore water pressures : the Sieve River (Italy)

Auteurs :
RINALDI, M.
CASAGLI, N.

Description :
Channel bed-level lowering along the Sieve River, Central Italy, has caused widespread bank instability. In the first part, bank erosion processes along the study river are examined, and the stability of the streambanks is analysed in order to obtain relations between bank angle and height. In the second part, the changes in the stability of an individual streambank through time, as a result of changes in pore pressures, are illustrated on the basis of the results of 16 months of pore pressure monitoring.
