Description :
This special issue was conceived as a supplement which would include recent work from different parts of the world, reflecting current research emphases and perhaps indicate potentially important directions for future research. It was conceived as a collection of papers on piping. However, it is clear from the reviews cited that this term has been used to cover a considerable range of subsurface erosion features formed by different processes. A brief clarification is needed, there are 2 types of subsurface erosion apart from solution : true piping in the engineering sense and tunnel erosion.
