Description :
Soil/sediment relationships from the West Fork of Gallegos Canyon near Farmington, to the Manuelito Plateau northwest of Gallup, provide insight into the Late Pleistocene and Holocene history of the north-central to southwestern San Juan Basin. Soil formation suggests 6 widespread episodes of land-surface stability with 6 paleosols. The radiocarbon data from 33 dated localities and the soil/stratigraphic relationships from 8 localities with the most complete and/or datable soil/sediment records are discussed in this paper.
