Description :
This paper reports a study which quantifies the storage of fine-grained sediment on the floodplains and channel bed of the non-tidal sections of the main channels in the catchments of the River Ouse and of one of its main tributaries, the River Wharfe, in Yorkshire. The results have important implications for the routing of fine-grained sediment and sediment-associated contaminants in drainage basins, and for the interpretation of downstream sediment yields in terms of upstream sediment mobilisation.
