Mass wasting and subaerial weathering in guyot formation: the Hawaiian and Canary ridges as examples

Auteur :
SMOOT, N.C.

Description :
In this work, 27 years of bathymetric experience and data have been used to determine the exact point at which a seamount/volcano becomes a guyot, and if so whether guyots are, in fact, wave cut platforms. It is shown that the island/seamount already has a typical guyot morphology before it reaches the influence of wave cutting; the erosion is almost all subaerial.
