This paper reviews fundamental concepts of cartography and discusses the technological progression of cartography from traditional pen and ink to computer applications. Because the AA. think the future of geologic mapping is linked to geographic information systems and scientific visualization, they devote the second half of this paper to providing an overview of these technologies.
