Bedrock surface roughness aand the distribution of subglacially precipitated carbonate deposits : implications for formation at Glacier de Tsanfleuron, Switzerland

Description :
Two carbonate deposits are identified on the exposed bedrock surface in the forefield of Glacier de Tsanfleuron : macrocrystalline sparite and microcristalline micrite. While sparite and micrite are morphologically distinctive, their chemistries have been interpreted in terms of an evolutionary series. In this paper the AA. attempt to test hypothesized mode of formation by comparing the distribution of precipitates over a proglacial bedrock profile at Glacier de Tsanfleuron with the locations at which regelation-related refreezing would be expected to occur in the absence of basal cavitation.
