Late-Quaternary landscape response to environmental change in south-central Kansas

Description :
The aim of this study is to fully reconstruct the late-Quaternary paleoenvironmental and geomorphic history of the region. The primary focus is the chronologic, stratigraphic, and sedimentary differences that exist between late-quaternary deposits on upland sites. Dunes usually contain one or two weakly developed buried soils, indicating episodic mobilization of eolian sand in the latest Holocene. Surface soils are generally poorly developed, suggesting that dunes can easily be mobilized if vegetation is reduced, perhaps due to CO2 warming.
