Description :
Previous studies in Japanese mountains have shown that drainage density (D) correlates negatively with relative relief (R) and the erosion rate (E), whereas elsewhere both R and E correlate positively with D. To investigate the inconsistency, this paper compares 2 types of D-R relations for 8 mountain river basins in central Japan and then interprets the observed relations in terms of current hillslope processes, with special reference to the effect of slope failure on landform development.
