This paper describes an experimental design for large-scale physical modelling to measure and record the timing and rate of: frost penetration; surface frost heaving; thaw penetration; porewater pressure changes; and downslope surface soil displacement. It also presents some preliminary results to illustrate the value of the resulting data.
