Deforestation, information and citations. A comment on environmental degradation in Highland Ethiopia

This paper first comments on the deforestation orthodoxy in Ethiopia; the process through which information is constructed and spread. The second part presents a conventional methodology for the interpretation of environmental change based on aerial photo interpretation. It compares 1957 and 1986 aerial photos showing woody plant cover around the town of Debre Sina in North Shäwa. From this information the study will suggest a trend in vegetation change in that particular area during that particular time span. Finally, the paper briefly discusses to which degree the data is representative for the Highlands as a whole.
