Winter Atlantic climate and snowfall in the south and central Appalachians

Auteur :
HARTLEY, S.

Description :
Winter snowfall over much of the south and central Appalachian region shows a significant inverse association with a winter index of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) teleconnection pattern. The snowiest winters coincide with the negative phase of this pattern. The aim of this paper is to answer questions such as : does the snowfall-NAO association hold up over a longer period of record? If so, is this association based on NAO-related variations in temperature, precipitation or storm tracks?
